What is Special Recognition?
Special recognition is a military operation conducted by special operations forces, such as commands and / or special forces, whose purpose is to obtain information regarding the activities and means of the enemy or collect information from a geographical, meteorological and electronic, regarding the likely area of operations . This kind of recognition complements the use of other systems of intelligence and always aims to information of strategic value.
According to the concept used in the U.S. military, special recognition is the name given to reconnaissance and surveillance actions conducted by special operations forces to obtain or verify, through observation or other collection methods, information about the capabilities, intentions and activities of a current or potential enemy, or to also obtain data about the physical and meteorological characteristics of a given area. Special recognition includes target acquisition, area assessment, and damage control after an attack. This concept is similar to that adopted by NATO.
A special recognition can be conducted independently or in support of conventional operations. It is usually an operation that requires high confidentiality and is run by small groups of effective fighting techniques that employ elusive character.
